Queen of Beats

“Music is my purpose. It’s what drives my entire life.” 

Jennifer Gholston, a Saint Louis native, has been producing music since 1995, and, shortly after, her mentor, Jazz musician Oliver Sain, also from St. Louis, who worked with Ike & Tina, Etta James, and more greats from that era, took Jennifer under his wing and gave her hands-on studio training. “At first, I was only allowed to adjust microphones and assist him with studio sessions. Then he started allowing me in the studio alone. After that, he started locking me in while he went to play his gigs.” Under Oliver, she began producing and engineering, and shortly after, dubbed herself Queen of Beats. While her focus may be categorized as Hip-Hop/Rap and R&B, Queen has no box or boundaries when she creates, and brands herself as a “Fusionist” as she blends and bends genres, styles, and musical eras. She continues to sharpen her skills whilst showcasing her extraordinary talent. She credits her unique sound to her Gemini zodiac sign and growing up listening to various musical genres, including classical, reggae, house, and, incorporating many of these elements into her tracks. Jennifer also owns and operates a recording studio, Lab on the Hill, and a production company, AlphaEpsilon. After more than a decade off for a health hiatus, Queen of Beats has returned to the music scene refreshed, renewed, rejuvenated, and ready.
